MYOFASCIAL RELEASE (MFR) – THE JOHN BARNES METHOD

A safe and highly effective mind/body therapy using gentle, prolonged pressure over areas of connective tissue restriction (tightness, stiff, or painful areas of the body) to increase range of motion and function, eliminate pain, improve posture and sleep, gain flexibility and strength, decrease stress, enhance sports performance, and obtain better balance. MFR is performed on skin without oils, creams or machinery and without rubbing. All of our MFR therapists are trained and mentored by John Barnes, the creator of Myofascial Release Therapy.

Myofascial restrictions are caused by traumas, inflammation, repetitive stress, repetitive positioning, and surgeries. Up to 2,00 pounds per square inch of force is produce from a fascial restriction onto sensitive structures of the body (muscles, tendons, ligaments, bones, organs, etc). Myofascial restrictions can be hard to identify because they do not appear on the standard tests (x-rays, MRIs, myelograms, CAT scans, electromyography, etc.).

Each treatment builds on itself, so you continue to make progress and do not need to be reliant on a “maintenance” therapy for the rest of your life. We empower you self treatment techniques so that you can be independent and make faster progress on your path to your health. Our goal is to restore you back to a pain free active lifestyle.

CRANIOSACRAL THERAPY (CST)

A gentle, manual therapy used to evaluate and enhance the craniosacral system (the brain and spinal cord). Craniosacral therapy falls under the umbrella of Myofascial Release.

Craniosacral therapy (CST) is a gentle and effective technique performed on a fully clothed individual. During a CST session, the practitioner detects and corrects imbalances of the craniosacral system which is comprised of the membranes and cerebrospinal fluid surrounding and protecting the brain and spinal cord.

A gentle method of detection and correction that encourages your own natural healing machanisms to dissipate the negative effects of stress on your own central nervous system. Craniosacral Therapy is a therapy that uses gentle manual pressure applied to the skull, spine, and membranes to restore rhythmic flow to the craniosacral system, which includes the brain, spinal cord, cerebrospinal fluid, and surrounding membranes.

CranioSacral Therapy is a gentle method of detection and correction that encourages your own natural healing mechanisms to dissipate these negative effects of stress on your central nervous system. You also benefit from better overall health and resistance to disease.

MANUAL LYMPHATIC DRAINAGE (MLD)

The immune system is supported and boosted from receiving MLD treatments. A slow lymphatic system increases the likelihood of chronic illness and disease. This gentle massage stimulates lymphatic system circulation, the body’s natural cleansing mechanism, and encourages the natural drainage of the lymph from the body’s tissues. MLD uses extremely light rhythmic circular strokes to stimulate lymphatic flow and soothes the nervous system. It restores balance and reduces pain due to infection, inflammation, lymphodema, scleroderma, burns, scar, radiation and chemotherapy. This massage is extremely effective for people with cancer, auto immune diseases, allergies, edema or rosacea. With MLD, the body’s tissues are cleansed of metabolic wastes, excess water, bacteria, and toxins from medications, anesthesia, and poisons in the body from exposure or ingestion.

MLD is a proven treatment of edema (i.e., lymphoedema, edemas from strokes, edemas of traumatic origin such as dislocations, tears and fractures), neuromuscular disorders and fascial dysfunction, reflex sympathetic dystrophy, scleroderma, burns, scar therapy, acne, local chronic inflammation in the respiratory tract (including sinusitis and allergies), periodontal disease, bursitis, carpal tunnel syndrome, migraine, circulatory disturbances and digestive tract disorders. When MLS is received in a timely manner, it can dramatically shorten recovery time.

CONDITIONS HELPED WITH MLD

Surgical: Post-mastectomy edema, Post-hysterectomy edema, Varicose veins, Pre- and Post-surgical preparation and recovery, and amputation.

Cancer, Allergies, Sinusitis, Tinnitus, Meniere’s disease, Acne/eczema, Burns, Scars, Sprains/Strains, Muscle/ligament tears, Fractures/disclocations, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Tendonitis, Migraines, Neuralgia, Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, Stress reduction, Fibromyalgia, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Toxic Poisoning, and Scleroderma.

NEUROKINETIC THERAPY (NKT)

NKT restores your body back to its natural state of easy and graceful movement and balance from dysfunctional movements resulting in compensations, poor (or lack of) coordination and restricted movement. It also allows you to improve your performance in sports, daily activities, and exercise. Compensations come from three main sources: pain avoidance, as a direct response to inflammation, and to assist fatigued muscles. Signs of compensations in the body are not always obvious. They can include lost movement (i.e. cannot bend down to pick up something from the floor), reduced range of motion (i.e. cannot raise your arm above your head), pain, inflammation, reduced coordination and balance, and scars. Some people do not even know they are compensating – they either do not know anything is wrong, think they have to live with it, think that is just the way it is as you get older, or feel pain somewhere that may or may not be close to the compensations.

NKT assesses coordination dysfunctions resulting from traumatic injury, over-use, surgery, repetitive stress and positioning, intense training, inflammation, postural misalignment, and more. With NKT, dysfunctional movement patterns (Compensations, Balance and Coordination issues) are found and eliminated, so that functional (Normal) movement is resumed.

How do you know if you need NKT? If your body does not move the way it is supposed to. It could be in pain, tight or stiff. You have had an accident or surgery. You may want to improve your athletic or exercise program performance. Many athletes and weekend warriors enjoy gaining more skill and capabilities in their sport or exercise program. Gain strength and use the proper muscles to do so. Perhaps you are older than you used to be, and your body does not move so easily, or as much as it did.

The body has no mechanism to let go of compensation patterns. After trauma has passed the body continues to over-use the bracing muscles forever. Compensation patterns & inefficient movement patterns cause discomfort, pain, & more injuries. Inhibited muscles weaken from lack of use and more compensations are created. Until NKT clears the pattern there is NO lasting change.

NKT is a new massage modality available on the East Coast. Olympia Hostler is only one of five NJ therapists and 40 U.S. Certified at the highest level of NKT.

HESCH METHOD

The Hesch Method puts all of your joints into place by assessing each joint’s function or dysfunction and then release the tight muscles that are pulling the joint out of place. The whole body, including the Sacroiliac Joint and the Pelvis, is released.

Many back pain sufferers have a component of Sacroiliac Joint Dysfunction (SIJD) – a common cause of low back pain. SIJD makes it hard to sit, stand, walk, and sleep. It can also cause pain in the back, head, neck, hips, legs, and groin. This condition can be difficult to diagnose since the SI joints are so close to the hip bones and low back, and can be mistaken for a herniated or bulging disc.

The Hesch Method is a hands-on manipulation of joints and other body structures, that can eliminate SIJD. This therapy is unique in that it is a BRIEF treatment in which even complex patterns of neuro-musculoskeletal dysfunction can be pinpointed promptly and corrected within an average of three visits.

The Hesch Method, a unique set of Orthopedic Massage Therapy, represents a new approach to evaluation and treatment of back pain, in which spring tests are enhanced to a kinesthetic skill known as “Springing with AwarenessTM”. The practitioner thoroughly assesses the lumbopelvic structure in all planes of the body. A viscoelastic creep and reflexogenic model of treatment can rapidly restore normal function. This therapy is simple and very effective.

THAI MASSAGE

Vedic Thai Massage-Assisted Yoga is traditionally performed on a large comfortable cotton futon floor mat which gives the receiver both comfort and full-body support. Working on the floor also allows the therapist to move freely around and above the client, making for effective use of the therapist’s body weight and mechanics. The therapist can also work with the receiver in a variety of positions, including prone, supine, side-lying, and seated. Thai on the table is more common and is just as effective for the receiver. Our therapist will help you with your positions and will accommodate your comfort.

In a Vedic Thai Massage-Assisted Yoga session you will wear loose-fitting or stretchy clothing that allows your body to move, no oils are needed. The techniques used work far beneath the surface of the body, effecting the deeper layers of the muscles and skeleton. Treatments are routinely modified to include sensitivities addressing acute and chronic conditions, including: herniated disks, muscle strain, subluxations, joint replacements, surgeries, and pregnancy.

The Thai-Yoga Therapist doesn’t just use the power of their hands and fingers. They use their hands, their fingers, their palms, arms, knees, and feet, along with the receiver’s body weight and their resistance to provide a deeply moving experience. The Thai-Yoga Therapist enters into a meditative awareness adapting every asana stretch and technique to the client’s exact need, whether soft or strong.
